History of Aspire PFC

Aspire PFC (Aspire Powerchair Football Club) was formed in 2002 when Powerchair Football was introduced to the UK by a guy from Japan called Hiroshi Takahashi.  He first demonstrated Powerchair Football at Aspire National Training Centre and this is where Powerchair Football was first introduced to the UK.  Aspire PFC hosted the first ever tournament and finished runners up to MYPC (Middlesex Young Peoples Club).

Since the first tournament players representing Aspire PFC decided to continue to train and 4/5 players remained training together.  A second tournament was then held at Treloar College where Aspire PFC and MYPC teamed up together and once again finished runners up but this time to Treloar College.

The Football Association then took more of an interest in the sport and decided to set up the WFA  (Wheelchair Football Association) in 2004 where professionals from local FA got together to find out more about the sport.  Aspire PFC was the first member of the WFA. 

The WFA decided then to create a National League in 2006.  This League was split up into 2 pools where the top two team would progress to the semi-final and then final.  Aspire PFC won this unbeaten.

The 2007/08 season saw the National League split up into two divisions, the Premiership and the Championship.  Aspire PFC won the Premiership unbeaten, making them the first Premiership champions.  They attended the first ever Powerchampions League which is the European Cup for Wheelchair Football in 2008 where they finished 5th. 

The 2008/09 season saw Aspire PFC retain their Premier League title unbeaten once again. 

Once again in the 2009/10 season Aspire PFC retained their Premiership title.  The introduction of the WFA Cup saw Aspire PFC win this as well which meant they won the double.  Aspire PFC also hosted the 2nd Powerchampions League at Stoke Mandeville where they finished in 6th position.

The 2010/11 season saw Aspire PFC win the double once again unbeaten. 

The 2011/12 season was not as successful for Aspire PFC. They managed to win the League unbeaten, but lost their first ever competitive match in the WFA Cup semi-final on penalties to Sporting Club Albion PFC who finished runners up.

The 2012/13 season saw Aspire PFC once again defending their Premiership title.  This season saw Aspire PFC drop more points than they had previously done and they also suffered their first defeat in the National League.  This allowed Northern Thunder to become Premiership champions, taking the title away from Aspire PFC for the first time in seven years. Their season did not finish there.  Aspire PFC made it to the final of the WFA Cup, but lost out on penalties to Northern Thunder.  Aspire PFC are travelling to Paris to compete in the EPFA Champions Cup at the end of June.
